"Bringer of life, giver of gifts;
Many covet his domain,
yet shrink away at his charity.
Eternal life he gives,
yet few desire the form in which it comes.
Beware the Lord of Spring."
In the same vein as the other two Thormundar deer characters I've repainted this year
(https://www.arts...and
www.artstation.co...this is Orin, the avatar of the season of spring. Unlike his siblings, I wanted to represent his domain of life beyond the usual floral elements (that represent spring, and also because I've been painting a lot of forests lately) by using the idea of flesh and cancerous growth, which also allowed me to indulge in my love of painting body horror and flesh warping. Despite the representation of his realm of flesh, I wanted to keep Orin's appearance the same as before, as a sort of way to disguise his association with his preferred way of expressing his domain, as well as create a contrast with the rest of the piece.
